There’s something about the colour red that really gets us going here at Gentleman’s Journal. Be it a new, red hot supercar or something a little more retro — such as this exquisitely exciting Porsche Speedster — red is a colour of passion, of power and of sheer seductiveness.
Since it first rolled off the production line, this 1957 Porsche 356 has had its fair share of restorations. Down to the smallest details — from the canvas spare-tyre strap to the proper ‘pickle fork’ wipe arms — the attention to detail on this model is stunning. And it retains its original matching numbers engine, date-coded components and even hubcaps from 1957.
It’s a car of timeless style and brilliant driving dynamics. Delivered to California over half a century ago, this particular model was finished in Signal Red, one of the most popular colour options for the car.
And it’s a Porsche with pedigree. This Speedster has earned first places trophies at various Concours d’Elegance, as well as four Full Restoration awards and three Manhattan Trophies, the highest possible honours in competition judged by the Porsche Club of America.
Unfortunately for any collectors in search of a superb example of an iconic Porsche sports car, this red hot Speedster just sold at auction for a staggering $462,000. But we can’t stop looking at it — and surely that means it was worth every dollar…
Want more Porsche action? We ask: Is this 1950s custom car beautiful or a monster?
