Corduroy is officially cool again: here are our favourites
Words: Gentleman's Journal
Ok, so corduroy doesn’t immediately scream cool. A fabric most commonly associated with the older gentleman, and therefore ignored by many, corduroy often gets bad press. However it shouldn’t, and here at The Gentleman’s Journal we think corduroy should be celebrated. With many of the worlds finest brands using it to create some beautiful garments, it’s time you don your corduroy and wear it with pride. So, without further ado, here are a few of our favourite wardrobe essentials this season.
Blazer
Many gentlemen will out-right refuse to wear a corduroy blazer, but they shouldn’t. The effect this material has on the eyes is one of intrigue, for few wear it, you’ll be sure to stand out of the crowd – and for all the right reasons too. We particularly like this one from Boglioli – refined, fitted and luxurious, it has gentleman written all over it.
Trousers
Cordings have long been the propagators of the corduroy material, and its trousers are some of the most traditional and timeless on the market. With a vast array of colours to choose from, make sure you keep them neutral, this way they’ll be versatile and work with many an outfit.
Outerwear
Corduroy on outerwear, really? I hear you ask. Well, yes. It truly can work. And where more stylish than from Baracuta. A favourite brand of style icon Steve McQueen, Baracuta’s jackets are well-fitted, of high quality and perfect for every smart-casual occasion. We particularly like this one.
Shirt
A corduroy shirt is not an easy garment to pull off. Certainly reserved for the more casual event, picking the correct shirt for you takes due consideration. With this in mind, it’s always wise to stick to bolder colours, like this one from Incotex.
Tie
The corduroy tie is an easy way to add style to your outfit – the undulations in the fabric immediately catch the eye, therefore highlighting your look impeccably. This tie from New & Lingwood offers a true old-world charm, and we love it.
