Cone – The Speaker That Always Plays The Right Song

With the run of beautiful sunshine this week still going strong, the TGJ team are dreaming of lazy days spent outside, sunglasses on, drinks in hand, surrounded by close friends and – of course – the perfect soundtrack to accompany the moment. The problem though is that often we don’t know exactly what it is we actually want to listen to. Don’t get us wrong, when the right song comes on, we know instantly that it’s perfect for the moment and situation, it’s just getting there that’s the struggle. So, what if we told you that there was a speaker, sorry – ‘Thinking Music Player’ – that could judge exactly what it was you wanted to listen to? Impossible? Apparently not.
The man behind Cone, Duncan Lamb (co-founder of Aether), claims that through intelligent algorithms and processing power, they’ve managed to take the strain out of personal DJing. Cone learns your tastes and then effortlessly streams the songs that you want to hear. The Cone is a web-connected music player that works almost like a radio, yet only for the music you want to hear. Working in harmony with your iTunes and other streaming radio services at the same time. If you don’t love what comes out of it the moment you turn it on, you simply turn the dial (the front of Cone) to change it, and if it’s got the mood totally wrong, then a quick full spin of the dial will completely change up the music altogether. If that’s not enough, you can also ask Cone to play a particular song, album or playlist by actually speaking to it, or choosing directly from the device’s accompanying app.
Cone might just be the machine that changes the experience of listening to and enjoying music altogether. Gone will be the days of “what do you guys want to listen to”, or the pressure that comes with being the one who has to pick the next song when a pool-side playlist runs out. Now we can just tell the speaker that we want to listen to something, and it deals with the rest! It also looks extremely sleek and stylish, coming in either black and gold, or white and silver.
Well gentlemen, this definitely sounds like something we want in our lives – and with it’s release date this summer, we’ll be propping it up on every poolside, roof-terrace or park that we can find.
