Cocktail Of The Week – ‘The Frankfort Julep’ at The Whip
With yet another Bank Holiday Weekend just around the corner, we turn our attention to drinks because, well, why not? In honour of the ‘Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sport’, The Kentucky Derby on May 2nd and 3rd, one of our favourite bars, The Whip (Mayfair’s best hidden watering hole), is having a Southern celebration and we can’t wait to get involved.
The talented staff at The Whip have created a special ‘Frankfort’ julep, with Buffalo Trace, Old Times jam, mint, ginger and peach bitters, especially to celebrate the occasion. As if that’s not enough, they will be showing live race screenings and delivering exciting prizes throughout the evening on sweepstakes. There will even be a special southern food menu featuring Oyster Po’ Boy sandwiches, Shrimp & grits, banana bourbon pudding and burgoo stew, whilst a Buffalo Trace drinks menu will feature classic and reinvented juleps from their cocktail master, Jimmy.
Now here’s the best bit, if you fancy indulging in The Frankfort julep, and fancy enjoying it for half the price, then all you need to do is go in and whisper the name to the bar staff on your visit on the 2nd and 3rd May, but don’t tell anyone we told you! If you aren’t able to make it down this weekend, then try your hand at recreating this delicious cocktail for yourself…
INGREDIENTS
50ml Buffalo Trace
1 Bar Spoon of Tiptree Old Times Jam
10ml lemon juice
5ml Simple Syrup
5ml Ginger Syrup
10 mint leaves
2 dashes peach bitters
Topped dash of soda
METHOD
Simply add all the ingredients to julep tin
Churn over crushed ice
Enjoy!
