At this year’s Baselworld, Chopard presented a record breaking watch; the world’s first timepiece created from Fairmined gold. This gold from South America has been used to make the case-back, case and bezel of this stylish and classic L.U.C Tourbillon QF Fairmined watch. Fairmined means that the gold has been certified as being extracted responsibly with the miners receiving fair payment. This effort is not an anomaly for Chopard as they have been active supporters of ethical luxury for some time, even launching their very own ‘The Journey’ Project last year. What’s more, Chopard have set themselves the target to buy a significant percentage of their gold from other ‘Fairmined’ gold stocks.

Lina Villa, ARM’s (Alliance for Responsible Mining) Executive Director, says: “The L.U.C Tourbillon Qualité Fleurier Fairmined, demonstrates a strong show of support from the watch and jewellery sector for fair, sustainable and responsible gold sourcing. Chopard, which is a frontrunner in this field, has led the way for the entire watch and jewellery industry by adopting ‘Fairmined’ gold.”

So what of the stunning timepiece itself. The alternating satin-brushed and polished surfaces create a beautiful and unique mix of textures. Other features include the sapphire crystal case-back, hand-sewn alligator strap, L.U.C 02.13-L1 movement, a power-reserve indicator and 50m water resistant capabilities. The perfect timepiece for any gentleman looking to be sustainable without having to compromise on luxury.
