Ditch the denim, wear chambray this summer

Sorry to break it to you, but your summer wardrobe isn’t a matter of wearing shorts and putting the jumpers away for the next four months. The seasonal segue should be met with a sweeping overhaul of your clothing options, not a drudging rifle through the back of the closets for something you won’t sweat through in seconds. It’s about time you started making the necessary changes to stay stylish in the heat, not wilting in the sun like every other man around you.

Of course making the move to a lightweight wardrobe to fend off the effects of the rising mercury isn’t too difficult to comprehend. Give the wools and man-made fabrics a miss in favour of breathable less insulating alternatives, cotton, linen and the like. One fabric that often flies under the radar is chambray, the denim lookalike that is nowhere near as heavy and far more fitting for the temperatures at hand.

The chambray shirt is the ideal backbone of your off-duty wardrobe through the summer months, full of versatility and seasonal appropriateness yet maintaining the rugged masculinity of its denim counterpart.

Here are three of our favourites:

MANGO

The archetypal chambray shirt, light blue wash and aping denim in appearance, wear it with everything from chinos and a woven belt to tailored shorts and loafers.

CANALI

A more refined take that’s far detached from the rugged routes of the piece. It’ll slot right in alongside some tailoring, ideal for the summer smart-casuals.
