The 2015 CES has been one of the most high-profile and successful Consumer Electronic Shows ever and has featured hospitality robots, self-driving cars and, rather bizarrely, self-levitating speakers. The show opened to the public on the 6th of January and it was clear from the beginning that something was different about this CES. In the past the trade show has focused upon rather fanciful prophecies of what the future could be, rather than what it will be – this year the predictions seemed to be more accurate than usual; you can feel that these innovations are just around the corner.

The Bionic Bird was easily the best drone on display and, rather charmingly, the man who presented it to the world is the grandson of the creator of the ‘Tim Bird’ toy ornithopter. For those who are less keen on the great outdoors, LG’s 77-inch 4K Flexible OLED TV showed us where the future of television lies – and it’s glorious. The idea of the ‘home cinema’ has been around for a while now, and finally it looks like we’re going to get televisions that do that concept justice.

The thing that really excited the press and public alike was the Mercedes-Benz F 015. The radical concept car looks ridiculously futuristic; the exterior is striking; predominately a shimmering silver with noticeably wide wheels covered by very thin tires. The interior is as opulent as it is intriguing and includes front seats which can be swivelled to face backwards, away from the driving seat. Why? Because the F 015 is a driverless car, one of the first of its kind…

This year’s CES inspired us like no other show before, and we maintain the hope that we, the public, will shortly be using much of what we saw this January.,
