Cars – The New Audi TT Is Unveiled

Words: Violet

Excitement hit this week as The Gentleman’s Journal saw the first UK unveiling of the third generation new Audi TT. And what a launch it was.

The third generation coupé is, looks-wise, a casual evolution of the current model. That said, however, there are big changes under the surface. It’s taken a real step from a hot hatch coupé to a real sports car. This point is proven as it now joins the Audi R8 as the only other Audi to have its rings on the bonnet instead of the grill.

The new TT is certainly more angular and masculine than its predecessor, especially at the front where the grille is very similar in design to the one found on the range-topping R8 supercar. As well as more interior space, the new car comes has much more power, which is always a good thing on our terms. Thanks to an improved range of three four-cylinder engines offering outputs of up to 310PS, a 2-liter turbodiesel unit and for the range-topping TTS model, permanent Quattro all-wheel-drive.

This Audi TT is perfect for cruising down to the South of France, or indeed whizzing around the city. Inside, the TT is the first Audi car to get the company’s much-hyped virtual cockpit, whereby all main control switches and multimedia functions are combined in a single digital unit.

If you see yourself sitting back and racing through the summer in this car, then I’m afraid you’ll have wait as it wont be on sale until Autumn – here’s hoping for an Indian summer then!
