Brunello Cucinelli reopen London flagship
Words: Charlie Thomas
Burlington Gardens has always been a haven for high-end clothing, and the Brunello Cucinelli flagship store has long been an intrinsic part of that. Having just reopened following an extensive refurbishment, the focus has been shifted to menswear, with the entire first floor dedicated to outfitting the gentlemen of today.
The large size of the store somehow remains unintimidating, which is perhaps due to the white painted walls and slick stone flooring which give it a light, airy feel. The open planned layout is like a meandering river, inviting you to flow with it as you take in the beautiful cashmere knitwear, leather monk straps and handcrafted accessories.
Brunello Cucinelli is a brand rooted in tradition, yet it leans towards the contemporary particularly in their signature ensembles, which masterfully blur the lines between formal and casual. This notion is reflected in the store, with its distinctly modern feel contrasting with burnished wood furnishings and a classic tailoring room.
With Savile Row just a short walk away, those after a world-class suit are spoilt for choice. Many argue that Italians do it better though, and even a quick visit to the tailoring room at the Brunello Cucinelli store would likely turn even the most traditional of British dressers. Defining Italian style, the Brunello cut is slim through the waist and arms, and boasts a short seat and unstructured shoulder, bringing a touch of the Riviera to the heart of London.
Such a focus on menswear is a refreshing move and one that we couldn’t be happier about. Here’s to hoping more brands follow suit in the months to come.
