From 1919 to 1940, Brough Superior produced some of the finest motorcycles around, with the SS100 being their most legendary bike of all. Hand built in their Nottinghamshire factory, Brough superior were renowned for their quality craftsmanship, high performance and dazzling looks, and it wasn’t long before they garnered a name for themselves as one of the leading motorcycle manufacturers in the world.
Referred to as the ‘Rolls Royce of motorcycles’, the English company often custom made their bikes for specific buyer’s needs, but it was the iconic SS100 that became their biggest success. Featuring unrivalled performance of the period, the SS100 was named as such because it could reach speeds of up to 100mph, with many hailing it as the world’s first superbike. First released in 1924, Brough Superior are this year celebrating the bike’s 90th anniversary, and to mark the occasion they have decided to resurrect the bike that cemented their place in the history books.
The new SS100 is heavily inspired by the old and features a similar twin-pipe design and elongated chrome fuel tank, but with high-tech components and modern-day refinement. That’s not to say that the new bike is tame however, as its 1000cc V-twin engine pumps out 140bhp, so it would no doubt eclipse the original machine in a straight line. It’s the design of the bike that really shines though – it looks flat-out stunning. In fact, we’d go as far to say that this is one of, if not the best looking bike on sale today.
