BREWBOT – Brew Your Own Beer
Words: Violet
There’s nothing better than a home-brewed pint of beer in a local village pub. Raise your tankards if you agree! What would you say to a home-brewed beer drunk in the comfort of your own home? Impossible! Say hello to the latest beer savvy robots that can make this vision a reality. If, like us, you’ve always savoured the idea of brewing your own beer then read own. Brewbot, the latest professional gear on the market, is designed to enable amateurs who have never brewed a beer before the chance to do just that controlled by a smartphone app.
We’re not messing around with you. Making beer is renowned for being incredibly complex, after all, you’re not mixing cocktails. It’s science in its most fruitful light. The Brewbot aims to take the notoriously complex and tricky process of brewing beer and make it simple and accessible. Instead of having to constantly check temperatures and pH, Brewbot comes front-loaded with sensors so that you’re automatically prompted to add the right stuff at the right time. Like a bread maker, but more macho.
All this adds up to a machine that the developers believe makes beer at a cost of roughly a few pence a bottle. If that strikes you as considerably cheaper than your average beer, you’d be right. The only downside, though, is you’ll have to commit quite a lot up front to get your hands on one. Kickstarter are currently selling them for around £2,500 for one, plus shipping. It’s a no brainer. As an added benefit, the Brewbot team have gone out of their way to produce a rather dapper deign. You just have to come up with a name for your own brand and invite the boys over for a tasting session.
