Breguet is a name synonymous with quality. Frequently hailed as the greatest watchmaker who ever lived, beloved by those from Queen Victoria to Winston Churchill and even credited with creating the first ever wristwatch, this is a brand that brings both style and substance to the table.
The latest model in the brand’s Classique line-up is the Reference 7147. For a not unreasonable £14,000, you can get your hands on a 40mm time-only watch in rose gold. With an engine-turned, silvered dial – complemented by a ‘cross weave’ small seconds indicator – and classic blued steel ‘Breguet’ hands, this is minimalism at its best.

A chapter ring is marked with Roman numerals and the brand’s typical touches – such as ‘hobnail’ cases and engine-turned dials – are here in force. Look closely, and you’ll even spot the Breguet secret signature on either side of the ’12’ marker.
If you tire of looking at the beautiful, textured dial, the sapphire crystal case back affords views of the ultra-thin, self-winding movement in all its glory – whilst still protecting the self-winding movement from up to 3 bar of water pressure.

This is simplicity at its best, an understated yet intricate timepiece with the hallmarks of the brand but enough innovation to make it feel new, exciting and pioneering. Rose gold is famously versatile, as is the brown leather strap – so wear in the office, during your Sunday drive or at a cocktail party and it will look right at home. It’s undeniably a classic – or should that be Classique?
