The boozy brunch every gentleman needs to know about
A hidden treasure in the heart of London's bustling King's Cross
Words: Gentleman's Journal
With the redevelopment of King’s Cross over recent years, the area has now become a hub for popular restaurants, cosy cocktail bars and most importantly, weekend brunch spots.
Taking the lead is Plum + Spilt Milk, conveniently situated just a stones throw from the station itself. Sitting within the grand interior of the Great Northern Hotel, Plum + Spilt Milk has become a go-to place for a boozy brunch, and is particularly favoured by the Instagram foodie crowd.
The luxury brunch menu has been created by Chef Director Mark Sargeant, as a celebration of modern British cuisine. Available every Saturday between 11am and 3pm, the brunch menu includes a varied selection of breakfast and brunch dishes alongside all-day dining choices.
So there’s really something for everyone, whatever time of day you decide to visit. And, if you go for Saturday – the start of a well-earned weekend – the champagne option is a must. The new menu is priced at £65 for two, which will include a choice of any dish from the menu plus a bottle of Billecart-Salmon Champagne to share and coffee to finish.
Modern British cooking at its finest.
A great Saturday lunchtime vibe with a cosy atmosphere. The deep midnight blue walls and gold fixtures compliment the surroundings perfectly, so have your iPhone at the ready as the interior is a true selling point for this place. Perfect to catch up with friends or toast to a weekend celebration.
It’s the breakfast food we love, taken to a new level. Eggs appear in a number of guises such as; Dorset lobster benedict, brioche eggy bread with banana, pecans and salted caramel and Macsween’s haggis with fried duck egg.
Fuelling London’s love affair with avocado on toast, the brunch favourite is offered as two variations; with tomato and chilli on granary, or with Portland crab on sourdough. If you visit towards the later part of the sitting, go for the crab, you definitely won’t regret it.
Heartier highlights include Plum + Spilt Milk’s full English, smoked haddock kedgeree with soft poached egg, chilli and coriander and Mey Selection sirloin steak with two fried eggs and paprika potatoes.
The Billecart-Salmon champagne is deliciously light and fresh to accompany a brunch, it’s a no brainer to go for this when the price for two is so reasonable. If that’s not your thing then there is an array of cocktails to choose from such as a Breakfast Martini, Bellini and of course, copious Bloody Marys.
My first thought on looking at this menu was how good value it is. For two brunch dishes, a bottle of champagne and coffee to finish, £65 is a real steal considering the quality level Plum + Split Milk have managed to achieve.
Catching up with a group of friends, pre-Saturday night party if going for the champagne option, or even curing that Friday night hangover with a much needed Bloody Mary.
