The best rooftop bars to visit this summer
Words: Hamish Roy
In the heart of the long-awaited summer, the city is astir from its innermost point to the tip of its fartherest-flung borough. Rising above the clamour of the streets – and the looming shadows of the buildings that line them – are the rooftop venues that offer a novel escape. Some are opulent affairs that seek to colonise the sky – the high-rise bars that tantalise by placing the entire metropolis before you. Others are hip and relaxed, featuring pop-up art installations and open-air screenings of art house films. Here are the best of both.

Rapidly becoming one of East London’s best-loved roof spots, the Boundary is a boutique hotel crested by a rooftop restaurant and bar. Bringing the mediterranean in to the heart of the metropolis, this rooftop has olive trees, abundant shrubbery and a cigar humidor sourced directly from Cuba. The recent addition of a heated orangery, filled with fragrant citrus and mimosa trees, ensures comfort when temperatures drop after dusk. The restaurant serves excellent tapas and a great selection of grilled meats.
