The best of home brewing tech
Words: Vincent Lim
There’s nothing quite like cracking open a bottle of your home-brewed beer, savouring the hoppy taste of your achievements. With these bits of tech, brewing your own beer or fermenting your own alcoholic beverage is no longer the domain of the pernickety recluse; now it’s easy.
1. Brewbot
This is a sensational product that removes all the effort, difficulty and confusion from brewing your own batch of the good stuff. Initially funded by a Kickstarter campaign, like so many of these brilliant ideas, Brewbot gives you precise instructions and recipes, telling you how much water to add, when to add the hops, and how long to leave the mixture to ferment. Best of all, it’s all accessible from your iOS device.

2. Beerbug Wireless Hydrometer
Similar to the Beerbot in its use of iOS, this product is more suited to the gentleman who already has some experience with home brewing and prefers the hands-on element that’s missing from the streamlined product above. Essentially, it takes all the data you need from your brew and delivers it to your phone or computer, allowing you to keep a watchful eye on that little vat of magic. The great thing about this product is that it fits most brewing vessels, providing the veteran brewer with an even greater degree of control.

3. Randall 3.0
For the gentleman who likes an unorthodox kick to his brew, infusion is a wonderfully innovative and tasty process. Designed with two chambers, the first of which infuses and the second of which de-foams the product, Randall 3.0 is an excellent way to make your pint just that little bit more exciting.

4. Winepod
With the ability to connect to a computer, the Winepod gives wine enthusiasts the opportunity to make their own wine at home, constantly being updated with the necessary data to ensure a great end product. Its automatic wine press, pomace cake removal and heating and cooling controls will provide any budding winemakers with all they need for an excellent bottle of homemade vino.

5. SYNEK
The fun starts once you’ve made your beer, and we all know that a cold pint on draft is infinitely better than a bottle, no matter how great the beer itself is. Circumventing the troublesome need to keg your beer, SYNEK allows you to pop your liquid in a bag before refrigerating it, letting you taste your creation at its very best.
SYNEK, $299 from Square Up
