BANG ON TARGET – BELVOIR CASTLE CHARITY SHOOT

Words: Patrick

Hosted by Their Graces the Duke and Duchess of Rutland, the Belvoir Castle Charity Shoot, now in its fourth year, was another resounding success and is fast becoming one of the highlights of the summer sporting calendar.

Thirty teams battled it out on the variety of stands set up and administrated by The Really Wild Clay Company – the 1000 clays presented to each team replicating every aspect of game shooting; from high pheasants to low incoming grouse.

Participants included Strictly Come Dancing’s Anton Du Beke and his partner Hannah Summer, and ex-England cricketer Graeme Swann. Proceedings got underway with breakfast in the Guard Room before Guns donned tweed and wellies and made for the first stands of the day. The day’s victors were the Empingham Estate team – Phil Burtt, David Padley, Stephen Bett and Wally French.

The teams then returned to the castle for a champagne reception and late lunch in the stunning State Dining Room, followed by the prize giving and a charity auction orchestrated by Paul Clayson of Fisher German – the chosen beneficiary being the Belvoir Castle Cricket Trust.
