A brand that every man should be familiar with
Words: Gentleman's Journal
Uniqlo has been building a glowing reputation over the past few years, with stores popping up all over the globe, and there’s a reason for all of this – LifeWear.
The guiding principal of the brand, LifeWear is a new approach to making clothing to fit your life, it’s not just about style, it’s often about what you don’t see with Uniqlo. Such as adding a little bit of stretch to their mens stretch selvedge jeans to allow a great shape with added comfort. This can be summed up by the brand’s mission statement:
Who you are, what you believe in: that’s what you wear every day. And that is what we make clothing for.
Welcome to a new way of apparel.
Apparel that comes from our Japanese values of simplicity, quality, longevity. Designed to be of the time and for the time. Made with such modern elegance that it becomes the building blocks of your style.
A perfect shirt that is always being made more perfect. The simplest design hiding the most thoughtful and modern details. The best fit and fabric made to be affordable and accessible to all.
Clothing that we are constantly innovating, bringing more warmth, more lightness, better design, and better comfort to your life.
It never stops improving because your life never stops changing.
Simple apparel with a not-so-simple purpose: to make your life better.
Uniqlo LifeWear.
Simple made better.
As a Japanese brand, Japan is central to Uniqlo’s LifeWear philosophy. Before the 20th century, Japan didn’t have, nor was influenced by, the western clothing culture. Uniquely, Uniqlo is not tied by the tradition and history of any cultural meanings. What this means is that it is able to take a slightly objective view to produce the best all-round garments feasibly possible. Objectivity is key with this brand, and its innovations – Heattech and Airism – help see this through to fruition.
Heattech, for example, has had a fascinating journey. To provide warmth, thermal wear is generally thicker, but Uniqlo saw a different way. By working with leading textile manufacturer Toray, they produced 10,000 examples before an ultra-thin garment that retained heat was found.
As Uniqlo say, “We are not trying to tell anyone how to live their lives, that’s up to them; we just want to make clothes that fit their life perfectly. We create perfected basics that can be pulled together to fit into your own personal style, for any occasion. Because people’s lives are constantly evolving, we constantly evolve our product to fit them.”
