Words: Hugh Francis Anderson
When it comes to Aston Martins, we are quite possible inundated with models that could be called the most beautiful Aston Martins of all time. So what we must do is combine the physical beauty of the car, with the provenance – making them not on stunning, but intriguing too. It’s all about Aston Martin at the moment, what with the release of Spectre next week (a film where, unsurprisingly, an astonishing £24 million worth of DB10s were destroyed) and we at The Gentleman’s Journal wanted to pay tribute to these fallen vehicles, and give Aston Martin a little more air time with our list of the most beautiful Aston Matins of all time.
The Vintage:
DB2 – 1950
A car that was at the forefront of starting the sports car revolution, the DB2 is stunning. With a single-hinged bonnet and sweeping line, it has to be on the list.
DBR 1 – 1959
Now as far as vintage racing cars go, the DBR1 has to be at the top, just look at it! One of the most expensive and rarest Aston Martins nowadays, and with such racing pedigree, it rightfully has a place here.
DB5 – 1964
No list would be complete without the DB5 – it’s not only gorgeous, but iconic beyond belief. If it’s good enough for Bond, it’s good enough for us.
DB4 GT Zagato – 1961
Another prime piece of British engineering and design, the Zagato is effortlessly suave. Extended wheel-arches and rounded contours make it the perfect Aston for our list.
V8 Vantage – 1977
The V8 Vantage may not seem like a likely contender for a place on the list of the most beautiful Aston Martins of all time, but its radical design that is unlike all other Astons – and reminiscent of the America Muscle car – makes is suitably iconic.
The Modern:
One 77 – 2009
The One 77 is one of the most exclusive Astons of all time, with only 77 made, so getting your hands on this beast in neigh-on impossible. With a retro-futuristic shape, it is firmly on our list.
DB9 – 2013
The DB9 in a modern day motoring icon. What it represents is the best of British design and engineering, and instantly recognisable. Beautiful? Wholeheartedly so.
Vanquish – 2015
Much like the DB9, the Vanquish has risen to the top of modern motoring. Its more aggressive stance, which oozes masculinity makes it a big-boys toy of unbridled prowess.
DB10 – 2015
The newest Bond car and one we are excited to see pushed to the limits on Spectre, the DB10 has a formidable following at the moment. Sure to become iconic like the rest, the elegance of this vehicle is unprecedented and it therefore deserves a spot here.
Vulcan – 2015
Finally the Vulcan – Aston Martin’s track-only supercar. The fluidity of this vehicle is mind-boggling, not to mention its formidable engineering. Let’s give it a space on the list, for the sheer sake of its outrageous motoring pedigree.
