While historians the world over maintain the German arms race is dead and buried, Audi, BMW and Mercedes are busy doing everything to prove them wrong. Hot on the heels of the Mercedes A45 AMG and in the wake of the BMW M3’s media launch, Audi has fired out the A3 Clubsport Quattro concept as a two-fingered salute to its German counterparts.
Capable of reaching 62mph in 3.8seconds and a top speed of 192mph, the A3 Clubsport harnesses every last drop of juice from its turbocharged 2.5-litre engine that produces a punchy 518bhp. With a launch control system, all-wheel drive and a seven-speed S-tronic automatic gearbox to help it off the line, the Clubsport concept elevates the A3 far above a mundane, motorway munching repmobile.
Looking for an order form? Well fear not, as the A3 Clubsport points to the architecture of the forthcoming RS3 hatch and the saliva educing possibility of an RS3 saloon. The 21inch rim wearing, carbon fiber, super saloon will debut at the Worthersee show in Austria from May 28 until the end of the month. The RS3 Sportback is due in showrooms in late 2015, and should be priced in line with the £38,000 Mercedes A45 AMG.
