We’re constantly showcasing the most incredible destinations on the planet, from 30 places to visit before you’re 30, to the most amazing remote hotels in the world. There’s no shortage of countries and sights to make an endless bucket list, and we can never expect to tick every single one off – there is simply not enough time.
Some places, however, aren’t even an option for the intrepid traveller, as tourists are forbidden access due to exclusivity or the prioritising of preservation. But much like telling a toddler that he can’t have something, this only makes us want to venture to these guarded gems more. Here are a selection of amazing places you’ll never get to visit…
BOHEMIAN GROVE

A 2,700-acre campground located in California belonging to a private San-Francisco-based men’s art club. In mid-July each year, it hosts a two-week encampment of some of the most powerful men in the world.
LASCAUX CAVES

Lascaux Caves is a complex of caves in southwestern France that is famous for its Paleolithic cave paintings, estimated to be 17,300 years old. The caves have been banned to the public since 1963.
NORTH SENTINEL ISLAND

Nestled in the Bay of Benegal, this island is home to the Sentinelese, who remain virtually untouched by modern civilisation – attempts are met with arrows and stones.
POVEGLIA

Poveglia is a small island located between Venice and Lido in the Venetian Lagoon, northern Italy, used as a place of exile and a dumping ground for the diseased and deceased for centuries. Today, the island is closed to locals and tourists.
NIIHAU

Niihau has been off limits to tourists since 1915, with the purpose of preserving its indigenous culture and wildlife. This island has no paved roads, no stores, no restaurants and no electricity.
SNAKE ISLAND

Ilha de Queimada Grande, aka Snake Island, lies 90 miles from the city of São Paulo and homes so many venomous serpents that the Brazilian Navy bans civilians from the island. It is estimated that there’s a snake for every 6 square yards.
METRO 2

This underground train system in Moscow was built by Joseph Stalin, and is supposedly reserved for Russian secret services and top government officials.
