What do Cary Grant, Prince Charles and Robert Redford have in common, other than being male icons of their generations?
The answer is right in front of your nose – literally. For these men, among other high profile stars including Clint Eastwood, George Clooney, Quincy Jones and Richard Gere all share the same aftershave.
But what is this signature scent – a product that has attracted some of the most famous men of the 20th century to splash a dash on every morning?
Creed’s Green Irish Tweed is one of the cornerstones of the House of Creed, a Parisian perfume house which began as a tailoring house in 18th century London. With notes of peppermint and sandalwood, it has a distinctive aroma, and has become synonymous with class, masculinity and elan.
Green Irish Tweed was first developed in the 1980s specifically for Cary Grant, and was intended to evoke the lush greenery of the Irish countryside – a bid to highlight the brand’s equestrian tailoring roots, country squires and their estates, shooting parties and hip flasks.
The aftershave itself introduces itself with top notes of lemon and verbena, which give way to the heart of violet leaves and a base of iris, sandalwood and ambergris – a grey waxy substance produced in the digestive system of sperm whales and commonly found in luxury scents.
Oliver Creed – a sixth generation fragrancier – developed the scent, aiming for cut grass, spring meadows, summer wild flowers and herbs, warmed by a gentle sea breeze – his ideal of Ireland.
