Matthew McConaughey first gained notice for his breakout role in the coming of age comedy Dazed and Confused in 1993, and has been winning fans the world over ever since. Whether strolling the red carpet in picture perfect black-tie or running on the beach in his hometown, McConaughey always looks cool. He can also pull off a stetson like no one else we know. Here, we take a look at just a few of the reasons we wish that we could be just a little more like the star himself…
1. HE MAKES THE TEXAS DRAWL SOUND COOL, , Normally a slightly irritating accent to say the very least, but boy does McConaughey make it cool.
2. HE WON AN OSCAR, First and foremost, whilst we’re slightly gutted that Mr Leo DiCaprio didn’t make the win (again) we’ve got to hand it to McConaughey for his well deserved Oscar win for Dallas Buyers Club.
3. HE LOVES TO DRUM, , He played Brazilian music for eight straight hours in the operating room to help his wife, Camila Alves, give birth to their child, Levi. In October 1999 McConaughey was arrested for “resisting transportation” after police found him playing bongo drums loudly in the nude and with illegal drugs – kind of cool, even if it was illegal.
4. HE STARRED IN ONE OF OUR ALL TIME FAVOURITE FILMS – MUD, , The film that thrilled at Cannes, MUD. If you haven’t yet watched it, then you really really need to.
5. HE’S WORKED WITH SOME OF HOLLYWOOD’S MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMEN, , He’s acted alongside a host of stunning Hollywood actresses including Kate Hudson, Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Garner.
6. HE FOUNDED ‘JUST KEEP LIVIN”, McConaughey is the founder of the ‘Just Keep Livin’ foundation, non-profit organisation that “is dedicated to empowering high school students to lead active lives and make healthy choices to become great men and women.”
7. HE’S NOT TOO GOOD FOR TV, He’s currently staring in the totally gripping series True Detective, which is nail-biting-ly brilliant.
8. HE’S A FAMILY MAN, , Married to the utterly stunning Brazilian model, Camila Alves, McConaughey is a real family man with 3 kids and a long and prospering marriage. A very welcome break from the usual Playboys of Hollywood.
