7 Iconic Film Characters and their Drinks of Choice
Words: Violet
We all have our favourite film characters, whether it be Vito Corleone, Han Solo or Hannibal Lector but have you ever wondered what cocktails these iconic film characters would drink? – We have and we’ve matched up ten iconic characters from film with their (probable) cocktails of choice.
JOHN MCCLANE FROM THE DIE HARD FILMS
This tough American cop has a real distain for ‘eurotrash’ so it’s a pretty safe bet that his cocktail of choice is going to have originated from the ‘land of the free’. He’s an uber-masculine New Yorker with Irish ancestry, so I’m going to match him up with a Whiskey Mac.
ALEX DELARGE FROM A CLOCKWORK ORANGE
Incarcerated sociopath Alex DeLarge often frequented the Korova Milk Bar prior to his imprisonment, where he was oft seen with a glass of semi-skinned – no doubt laced with some peculiar narcotic. Bearing this in mind, I feel that Alex would go for a dairy based cocktail a White Russian perhaps.
KEYSER SOZE FROM THE USUAL SUSPECTS
Keyser Soze is even more unhinged than Mr DeLarge – if that’s possible. He’s a master of disguise and deception; you don’t quite realise his strength until the very last minute, when it’s too late – kind of like a Zombie.
ELLEN RIPLEY FROM THE ALIEN FILMS
Ripley spends most of her time fighting terrifying creatures from outer-space that have two mouths and bleed metal-corroding acid, she certainly needs a cocktail to take the edge off. Given her modus operandi, there can only be one conclusion; an Alien Brain Haemorrhage.
CHARLES FOSTER KANE FROM CITIZEN KANE
Citizen Kane is a juggernaut of a man; incredibly wealthy, impeccably dressed and completely self made. Only one cocktail, a Tom Collins, would be suitable for this steely newspaper proprietor.
VITO CORLEONE FROM THE GODFATHER
The quintessential gentleman-gangster, it’s hard to see the Don drinking anything other than an Old Fashioned. It’s a very simple drink, and hardly tastes like a cocktail at all, but it remains popular with traditionalists. Great for taking your mind off the five families.
THE TERMINATOR (T-800) FROM THE TERMINATOR FILMS
When you are a monosyllabic Austrian cyborg who specialises in mindless destruction, it’s hard to find the time to enjoy a good drink. Although I reckon the T-800 would probably drink pure ethanol out of choice, if he had to go for a cocktail he’d drink a Rusty Nail.
