5 watches you need to know about from BaselWorld 2015

The world’s largest watch fair, BaselWorld, hasn’t disappointed for 2015. Of the thousands of watches unveiled at the event, there have been some ghastly creations, yet a number of brands impressed with innovative new movements, exotic materials and enviable design. Here are 5 watches you need to know about from BaselWorld 2015.

ROLEX YACHT-MASTER EVEROSE

, Rolex veered away from their norm this year with this all-new Yacht-Master. With a striking black and 18k Everose gold case and complementary Oysterflex strap, it’s bound to please those who appreciate the quality and complexity of a Rolex timepiece, yet want something a bit more eye-catching.

PATEK PHILIPPE REF. 5940G

basel watch - TGJ.02

Patek Philippe arguably stole the show in Basel, particularly with their $2.5million Grandmaster Chime on display. And this perpetual calendar, the 5940G, is a thing of beauty too, as you would expect from the family-owned Geneva brand. The black dial, matching alligator strap and white gold case are a winning combination, and if you’re not sure of the case shape, we can assure you it’s a grower.

OMEGA GLOBEMASTER

basel watch - TGJ.06

Omega have created the world’s first Master Chronometer in the Globemaster. It has been put through a series of rigorous tests that surpass even those of COSC, so it will stay accurate seemingly forever. Its design has been inspired by their Constellations of the 50s and 60s, with the pie-pan dial a notable and instantly recognisable trait.

GEORG JENSEN KOPPEL GRANDE DATE ANNUAL CALENDAR

basel watch - TGJ.05

Georg Jensen may not be one of the big names of the watch industry, but with this new timepiece they are certainly getting a name for themselves. It’s increasingly difficult to come up with an original design in 2015, yet they have done just that with this minimalistic Koppel Grande Date Annual Calendar, featuring a white enamel dial, paper-thin hands, and date and parallel month windows.

SEIKO MARINE MASTER 300M LIMITED EDITION

basel - TGJ.01

Whilst Rolex and Omega may be the big names when it comes to diving watches, Seiko have quietly been producing them for 50 years. This Limited Edition Marine Master 300m celebrates the half-century mark since the brand’s first professional diver, featuring golden numbers and accents that replicate fading over time. It’s also waterproof to 300m, an impressive feat for a watch that costs a third of a Submariner.

RAYMOND WEIL MAESTRO FRANK SINATRA

basel watch - TGJ.30

This year would be Mr. Frank Sinatra’s 100th birthday. We can only imagine the lavish party he would have thrown in his hey day. For something we can really grasp though, Raymond Weil have produced a special edition watch to mark the icon’s centenary, and it doesn’t disappoint. With almost as much style and gravitas as the man himself, it boasts a clean, classic design with blue hands and hour markers (inspired by his eyes) as well as an automatic movement and black leather strap. We’re sure Frank would approve.
