Train travel is often underrated as a form of long distance transport. We are not sure why, exactly, having shortlisted the most beautiful trips you could take in one. The scenic views stay present for the entire trip, with no chance of boredom as you gaze at the ever-changing landscape, all from the comfort of a luxurious carriage. A chance to appreciate the distance you are going, all that you are seeing, and a therapeutic option too, this is an attractive choice for any gentleman wanting to escape on an authentic journey.
Blue Train, South Africa

Emanating from a fantasy of travelling from Africa’s southern and northern tips, the Blue Train was created as a steam roller in the 1920s. Over the Zambezi river, showered by the Victoria Falls, this train meandered its way as far as the Great African Railway allowed it to. With the discovery of diamonds and gold, the railway became utilitarian, ferrying society in the chase. But the ridge’s mineral wealth soon funded a burgeoning upper class, one that expected a more opulent mode of transport. The carriages then became standard bearers of the easy living, with card tables, ceiling fans, sofas and mini bars. Later used as a military train in World War II, its cream and blue colours, gave it its name today. The Blue Train was born. Refurbished in the 1970s, fueled by diesel in the 90s, this became a luxuriously modern form of travel, with a glitter of its history and romance.
As you can imagine, enjoying time just passing by in Africa is something very special. The sweeping plains, rich in wildlife, that stretch out to the horizon upon which sits the largest glowing sun, is a sight you will never forget. This is an exotic ride for any gentleman who appreciates nature and beauty. This experience will move you in every sense.
The Canadian, Toronto-Vancouver

This modern train is a new and terribly luxurious means of travel. It is simple elegance entwined with premium comfort and cosy accommodation. Gently cruise amongst vast twinkling lakes and dense Canadian forests seeing Northern America in all its glory. The starry sky will close in early as the Arctic animals turn in for the night and you have drinks and dinner. Another very memorable experience.
The Ghan, Australia

Nothing can prepare you for a holiday of such unimaginable proportions, as the Ghan takes you deep into the heart of Australia, through its outback and cities too. With private and luxurious cabins, you can relax alone, take in the surrounding beauty or meet other travelling companions. The train will have stop offs- creatively rich Adelaide or wander in the awe-inspiring Northern territory. This is the perfect balance between comfort and adventure, promising access to beauty like you have never seen before.
Trans-Siberian Express, Moscow-Vladivostok

Traditionally Russian in its interiors, with outdated luxurious design, this is a fantastic cultural experience. In the winter snow or the fresh summer sun, this is a beautifully scenic route across compelling Arctic land. Rivers, lakes and evergreen trees are plentiful and it seems as though you are reliving the majestic era of Alexander III. Captivatingly remote, you will stare at the northern treasures for miles.
The Venice-Simplon-Orient-Express, London-Paris-Venice

The train inaugurated in 1883 by the Belgian entrepreneur Georges Nagelmackers has become the most famous in the world. Its history and the story of its many different routes fill whole books, and even before its resuscitation by the American entrepreneur James Sherwood in 1982 it had become a byword for all that was most intriguing, romantic and mysterious about long-distance international train travel. In its pre-war years at least, it was associated with elegance and luxury and culinary excellence, and it is these qualities that characterise today’s private train, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. Appropriately enough for a train steeped in romance, its principal routes link three of Europe’s most beguiling cities, London, Paris and Venice.
The snow capped peaks of the Alps, the green pastures and vineyards, or clear blue skies that fill with stars whilst you dress in dinner jackets, is just a glimpse of the glamour. The king of all trains. Famous worldwide, and beautifully traditional, this luxurious expedition is one you will never forget. Hailed globally in literature and film, this journey will carry you through Europe’s most glorified countryside and city’s. A charming trip for a true gent.
