5 Signs Your First Date Was A Success
Words: Alex Woodhall
First dates are more often than not, a cagey affair. Whether you know her through a mutual friend or she’s a complete stranger, there’s a bit of pressure and expectation for the date to go well, initially at least.
We’ve all got those dating horror stories and even more where we’re not quite sure how it went, so how do you tell if your first date is going to be leading to a second? Look for these signs and you’re more than likely to be taking things further.
CONVERSATION WAS NATURAL
Whilst a slow start is expected, awkward silences are never indicative of a good date, even worse if it’s your first. If the conversation however is flowing naturally, and you’re discussing more than the weather and what the food’s like then things are certainly looking good.
HER BODY LANGUAGE IS GOOD
If she’s open with you, laughing and eye contact is maintained regularly, she’s clearly enjoying herself. An occasional touch of your arm or knee is even better and her body language is pointing to her being comfortable and at ease with you, the recipe for an excellent first date.
NO PHONES
We’re all a little over-attached to our smartphones nowadays and while it’s understandable, we’re busy men after all, avoid looking at yours, if possible, while in her presence. It implies that you’re bored or distracted and if she’s looking at hers, there’s a chance she’s not all that interested and a follow up date isn’t likely to be on the horizon.
SHE WASN’T IN A RUSH TO LEAVE
The cliché “time flies when you’re having fun” is totally applicable here. If you’re date is going so well neither of you realize how late it’s gotten, it’s time to take her number and make plans for a second. ‘Emergency’ exits on the other hand aren’t such a positive sign, an urgent work call immediately after she’s returned from the bathroom? Time to get back on Tinder I’m afraid.
THERE’S A FOLLOW UP
An obvious one, but if she texts you to say how much of a good time she’s had, then there’s no reason to take this at anything other than face value; start making plans for date number two. No text doesn’t mean a bad date, if you think things have gone well; follow up with her the next morning, eluding to wanting to meet up again.
