Pinot Noir is a challenging grape to grow, so it demands a higher price than most reds. It is, however, a soft drink that has light tannins, so it’s usually a crowd pleaser – making it a perfect spring or summer red wine to serve to groups of friends. It tends to pair well with a range of foods, with the lighter varieties tasting delicious alongside fish and roast chicken; the more tannic, heavier variants hold their own with heartier and heavier meats. Because of this, it’s the perfect wine for a BBQ or Sunday lunch. Pinot Noir is grown all over the world, and is even used in Champagne production when it is blended with Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier (yes, Champagne is made with red grapes!).
