5 of the best spring chinos
Words: Charlie Thomas
Cotton chinos are a year-round essential, yet when the weather heats up they become even more usable. A versatile alternative to both jeans and smarter tailored trousers, chinos are available in a wide array of colours and fits. As always though we’d recommend going with a slim fit in a classic, neutral colour. Having said that, spring is the perfect time of year to introduce colour, so opting for a pair in a more eccentric shade may not be such a bad idea. Here are 5 of the best spring chinos.
UNIQLO
These are your go-tos. Navy is generally heralded as man’s favourite colour; it’s a masculine, easy-to-wear option that can genuinely be worn every day. This Uniqlo pair is all you’ll ever need too, boasting a flat front, slanted pockets and a slightly stretchy cotton material that will ensure they’ll remain comfortable all day.

J.CREW
The second most important chinos you should own is a stone pair. Ideal for spring, the light shade can be paired with anything from a simple white t-shirt to a pastel button-down and simple sneakers to bench-made brogues.

POLO RALPH LAUREN
More wearable than you might think, sky blue is a pastel colour that we can really get on board with. This pair is endowed with Ralph Lauren’s famously soft cotton, the likes of which will keep you comfortable on even the most humid of spring evenings.

H.E. BY MANGO
Whilst chinos can be worn more formally, they aren’t a full-on replacement for a crisp tailored trouser, namely because of casual elements such as a slightly lower rise and buttoned-front. This pair mixes things up though, borrowing aspects from a suit trouser such as rear flap pockets, a zip-and-hook fastening and a hemmed leg, which should just touch the top of your shoe.

JOHN LEWIS,
This is the kind of aforementioned ‘eccentric’ colour we were referring to. It’s not too loud or brash, yet it will still be the main focal point of your outfit, or at least it should be. Wear with neautral separates such as a white oxford shirt and unstructured navy blazer and you’ve got yourself a go-to spring ensemble.
