5 New Technologies to Look Out For in 2013
Words: Gentleman's Journal
There is a lot of new and exciting technologies that are debuting in the new year. The Journal has picked what we feel are the most exciting and revolutionary.
1. Leap Motion

This technology is revolutionary in how it operates. It detects your hand movements within an accuracy of 1/100 of a millimeter. This means you can flip through photos without even touching the screen. It has great potential within businesses as presentations can be performed with a simple flick of the hand!
2. The PS4 and Xbox 720

Playstation and Xbox’s answer to the Nintendo Wii U. Although not exactly hot on Nintendo’s heals, both Playstation and Xbox have promised their most powerful gaming systems to date will be with us by late 2013. Sporting high resolution 3D gaming with impressive upgrades in graphics cards and HD compatibility. Finally, a gaming system for real men…
3. The First Test Launch of The Falcon Heavy

The rocket is being developed by SpaceX, a private company that NASA has contracted to transport cargo to the International Space Station. With a payload of 53 tons it is the single most powerful rocket in production. At full power, it has thrust equivalent to fifteen 747’s. Forecasted benefits include; more economical space flight, increased reliability and the chance to use the travel data to build newer, even more powerful space vehicles that can transport astronauts to other planets. Let’s just hope we have enough fuel by then.
4. Mobile Operating System From Firefox

With Google and Apple dominating the market outright Firefox must be pretty confident that they have a chance of claiming a profitable chunk of the market. Rumours are that they have developed new ways in utilising HTML5 (code used to program digital devices) that has great potential for new user experiences involving camera technology. ‘Slow Mo’ comes to mind… Apple might want to watch their back.
5. The Amazon Kindle Phone (no pic)
This rumour is plastered all over the web and it is hard not to get excited about it for a number of reasons. Firstly, Apple has cornered the market and more often then not their competitor’s technology and provides new interesting ways of engaging their users. So we are waiting eagerly to see what Kindle comes up with. Secondly, we are excited to see innovation within existing businesses. The past 3-4 years has seen many companies grow into huge multi-market giants by expanding out of their existing market with the creation of technology like the tablet, smartphone and eReader. We can learn a lot from this pioneering attitude when studying successful businesses.
