Once you find a decent fragrance, quite like a suit, it can be hard to let go. A fragrance, after time, will start to become synonymous with you. But, like all good things in life, your fragrance needs to be changed up: with the seasons, with your outfits and depending on the day of the week.
And, while scent is as subjective as can be, there are a couple of underlying factors that every gentleman needs to consider when choosing his cologne of choice. These, gentlemen, are five fragrances that we predict will be as iconic as the generations before them:
This exclusive collaboration last year saw two of England’s most iconic brands, Floris and Turnbull & Asser, to celebrate the launch of their collaborative fragrance, 71/72. The fragrance was launched as Limited Edition, is poured in Floris’ flagship store at 89 Jermyn Street in London’s Mayfair and is named after Turnbull & Asser’s flagship just up the road at number 71 & 72.
The fragrance aims to evoke the emotions of a first visit to the brand’s store and mirrors the high quality materials used in the production of their shirts, with key notes of sandalwood, oud and orris. What’s more, each purchased bottle with be personally named, signed and numbered by Floris head perfumer, Penny Ellis.
Hopefully by now you would have heard of Le Labo, the New York brand making waves in the world of grooming and fragrance. Each and every fragrance is blended for you, right in front of you, made specially for you and rather than saturate their product list with hundreds of different fragrances, there are only a couple of core scents that the brand sells, each one slowly becoming iconic in their own right.
Le Labo have managed to break into the market with serious gusto and are set to slowly but surely reignite the grooming industry, one fashionable department store at a time.
Byredo is mixing things up in the grooming world and is starting to gain recognition as a serious pioneer. Founded by a gentleman who was inspired by the incredible scents from his mothers hometown in India, each and every Byredo scent is innovative in its approach to fragrance alchemy.
Cedar is already one of the most incredible fragrances out there, so when it’s combined with modern innovation and uniquely blended, you know it’s going to be good.
Creed is already one of the most iconic fragrance brands out there, but the Silver Mountain water is set to overtake the rest. It’s not new, but it’s our personal favourite and one that gentlemen refer to time and time again.
As fresh as they come but with enough subtlety to keep people guessing, this fragrance is guaranteed to turn heads time and time again. The fragrance as a whole is inspired by the crispness and purity of mountain air and alpine streams, and focusses mainly on citrus notes.
You’ll already recognise them for their incredible ability to make every home smell incredible through their candles, but French brand has recently started to gain huge recognition when it comes to fragrances, too.
Although each fragrance uses the same technique and attention to detail as the brand does when it comes to their iconic candles, Philosykos stands heads and shoulders above the rest. Blended as an ode to Greece’s fig groves, the fragrance will sit as perfectly for summer as it will for winter. It’s light, refreshing, and woody: what more could a gentleman need?
