Words: Gentleman's Journal
We can all dream, right? Sure we can, and we’d be lying to ourselves if we said that a yacht wasn’t near the top our wish list if, one fortunate day, our Euromillions lottery ticket pulled in the top prize. So, take a minute, or three, to peruse these 5 incredible yachts we wished we owned.
SWAN 115
Designed and built to provide excellent performance, luxury yacht Swan 115-001 S is destined for both blue water as well as long distance cruising, and ensures short-handed sailing with ease. She offers elegant and comfortable accommodation in four well-appointed cabins, including a spacious full-beam aft master cabin, as well as three en-suite guest cabins. In addition, there is fully separate crew accommodation for a crew of 6 members.
ENDEAVOUR
Sailing yacht ‘Endeavour’ is a 130 foot J Class classic sailing sloop which was launched in 1934 and embodies one of the most formidable and famous sailing yachts in the world. Following her 2011 refit, she is in an ‘as new’ condition and is ready and waiting to give you the exhilaration of the powerful sailing of yesteryear. Her high sailing performance is matched only by her truly elegant interior accommodations and extremely high standard of craftsmanship, catering, service and facilities.
OYSTER 125
Flybridge sailing yachts are a relatively new concept and, until the introduction of the flybridge version of the Oyster 125 by Dubois, were to be found only on 48m (160 ft) yachts and above. The Dubois design office already has a number of flybridge yachts on the water, including Tiara at 54.3m (178ft) and Kokomo at 51.7m (169ft). With this experience, the Dubois team has been able to finesse the design of the Oyster 125 to capture all the benefits of this concept and match them within a well-balanced, good-looking profile.
SHAMROCK 5
Shamrock V was built in 1930 for Sir Thomas Lipton’s fifth and last America’s Cup challenge. Designed by Nicholson, she was the first British yacht to be built to the new J Class Rule and is the only remaining J to have been built in wood. After her launch she was continually upgraded with changes to hull shape and rudder. The rig was also modified to create the most effective racing sail plan.
RED DRAGON
Red Dragon is a 52m Alloy Yacht constructed in New Zealand. The design from Dubois Naval Architects was for a high performance aluminium sloop with the ability to stay operational for long periods at sea without shore-based support. She is fitted with a 62.5m (205ft) carbon fibre mast with a fully battened in-boom furling mainsail. Sails are handled by 11 captive and six vertical winches. Red Dragon is very striking with topsides finished in anthracite grey and a white superstructure. Her excellent sailing performance and clean decks will turn heads wherever she goes.
