All too often a balancing act between technology, cost, manufacturing and performance takes place in the production of skis; the compromise between these factors leaving them a shadow of what they could be if money was no object. Today we take a look at companies that are doing just that, taking financials out of the equation. These are the luxury brands that want you on the slopes, hitting the powder in Gstaad and produce nothing but the best:
ZAI

Based in the idyllic village of Disentis in the Swiss Alps, Zai is a ski brand dedicated to crafting some of the absolute finest skis on the snow. Founded by ski aficionado Simon Jacomet in 2003, the company was set up to create skis that were detached from mass-produced designs and are by far superior in quality, materials and handling.
The company’s own brand skis are stunningly well made using the most exceptional materials, while their on-going partnership with Bentley has particularly caught the eye. The two have combined to produce a ski that provides a ride that feels safe and smooth, but with the blistering speed and agility of a Bentley motor, should you desire it.

DE GRISOGONO

Exclusive jewellers De Grisogono has recently teamed up with renowned race-ski maker Rossignol to release a set of skis completely worthy of the luxury tag. Handmade in south-eastern France, they’re more than just a mere vanity project; De Grisogono and Rossignol have produced a ski that encapsulates the quality they both stand for.
Integrating the most advanced technology from Rossignol with De Grisogono’s eye for impeccable design, these limited edition skis truly standout and are nothing short of breath-taking.
The skis are available at De Grisogono boutiques for €8,500, in a limited run of 50 pieces.
WALLY

Primarily a boating brand, Monaco based Wally branched from the sea to the slopes with their innovative skis; based highly upon the carbon fiber technology that was initially developed for racing yachts. Using finite element analysis to create skis that are exceptionally light and efficient for precision, these skis allow comfort and stability on and off the piste.
The skis, known as Wallypowder, are beautifully modern with a contemporary metallic appearance and sleek edging that is befitting of the science behind them.
