There may only be about 2 months left of the skiing season but that’s still more than enough time to fit in a quick trip to the slopes. Rather than the usual Euro-Alpine resort, consider spending some time at one of these less frequented resorts. These are 3 ski destinations that might not have come up on your radar but you’ll definitely want to visit them either this season, or next…
NISEKO, JAPAN

One of Japan’s most forefront skiing resorts, Niseko is welcoming to foreign visitors and has a reputation for light powder snow and stunning backcountry views. The volume of snow the resorts sees has seen it dubbed ‘The Snow Factory’ and is a favourite whether you prefer piste or off-piste; the combination of both tree skiing and alpine will certainly satisfy everyone. For those who prefer a fair weather experience however, Niseko is probably not for you. Seeing very little sun but plenty of cold weather, it’s not the place to top up that tan.
OUKAIMEDEN, MOROCCO

Just a few hours from Marrakech sits Oukaimeden, Africa’s highest ski village. Far removed from the tropical temperatures you’ll associate with the country, and the continent, Oukaimeden has miles of virgin snow ready for an experienced skier to explore. The runs are nothing close to the groomed equivalents you’ll see in Europe; made for the adventurous, beginners should steer clear, the unkempt courses and off-piste provide an imposing challenge.
MZAAR, LEBANON

Not far from Beirut, it’s one of the biggest resorts in the Middle East and regarded as one of the most entertaining in the country. The stunning scenic views, runs of all difficulties and unrivalled après-ski make for a destination that’s well worth forsaking an Alpine trip for. With heavy snowfall and groomed pistes, it’s ideal for newcomers and experienced skiers alike.
