GORDON BROWN WILL STAND DOWN AS AN MP

The former Prime Minister will stand down as an MP at the next general election. The Labour MP for Fife and Kirkcaldy has served in parliament for 32 years and served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1997 to 2007 and as Prime Minister from 2007 to 2010.

THE UN WARNS OF EBOLA

The head of the UN Ebola response team Tony Banbury has warn against complacency when dealing with the global threat of Ebola. Banbury said that there was a ‘huge risk’ that the disease could spread to other parts of the world.

NATO MEETS TO DISCUSS RUSSIA

The foreign ministers of Nato countries will meet later this week to discuss the growing threat of Russia and the crisis in Ukraine. The priority is agreeing to present a united front in dealing with Russia and prevent further Moscow lead aggression.

FERGUSON POLICE OFFICER QUITS

The police officer who shot the black teenager Michael Brown in the US town of Ferguson, Missouri has resigned. Darren Wilson who had been on administrative leave since the killing said he did not want to put the lives of police colleagues at risk.

PROTESTS HIT EGYPT

A wave of protests has hit Egypt after charges against ex-president Hosni Mubarak were dropped. Mubarak had been charged over the deaths of Egyptians during the Arab Spring three years ago, but the charges were later dropped.

£15 BILLION ROADS REVOLUTION LAUNCHED

The coalition government has announced a programme of road building estimated to cost £15 billion. It will cover 84 new schemes and amount to 1,300 miles of new roads and lanes.

SONY FILMS LEAKED IN CYBER ATTACK

Five films distributed by Sony Pictures have been leaked online including a remake of the classic musical Annie starring Cameron Diaz, due to be released in cinemas in late December.

POLICE AND PROTESTERS CLASH IN HONG KONG

Thousands of police and pro-democracy protesters clashed outside the government headquarters in Hong Kong, temporarily forcing it to close. The latest flare-up was said to be the bloodiest so far, with hard police crackdowns becoming evermore likely.

BRITISH BOXER EARNS FIGHT WITH THE CHAMP

British heavyweight contender Tyson Fury defeated domestic rival Dereck Chisora to earn a fight with the formidable Ukrainian pugilist Wladimir Klitschko. Fury dominated his opponent and will likely fight Klitschko in 2015.

DAVID BECKHAM INVOLVED IN CAR CRASH

David Beckham and his son Brooklyn were said to be ‘shaken up’ after being involved in a collision in London Colney, Hertfordshire. The former England star was collecting his 15 year old son from a youth team game between Arsenal and Brighton and Hove Albion.
