Tech – 3D music is here

Beatie Wolfe is one of the most exciting voices in British music. Her powerful vocals, retro medleys and lyrical, um, lyrics make her sound instantly recognizable. Until now, she’s been a well-kept secret, playing intimate gigs in small venues and only releasing a few, well-chosen singles. But that’s all about to change, for yesterday she launched her debut album 8ight – and very fine it is, too. Rich, smooth, velvety – yes, it sounds like a fine claret, but somehow that’s an apt comparison. It’s so full-bodied it’s practically 3D.

However, it’s not just the music that’s exciting about this launch. Available oniTunes and vinyl (remember that?!), it’s also being released in an innovative and original way which could change the way we listen to music forever. To coincide with the album launch is an app which presents the album as – yes – a 3D interactive experience. This is the first of its type in the world and uses the Palm Top Theatre device to showcase videos of singles from the album in 3D.

Now, we don’t want to sound hysterical. But that is pretty darn cool. If this is the future of music, we want in. Imagine being able to watch a teeny-tiny hologram 3D video of the Beatles every time you played ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ on your iPhone, or the latest Chase and Status release. And this is only the beginning. The logical conclusion of this technology is that all bands will have their own apps with 3D interviews, music videos – hell, they’ll probably even have 3D live chat forums where crazed fans can ply Justin Bieber with overly personal questions.

The album 8ight and the app of the same name by Beatie Wolfe are now available on iTunes.com
